The story behind this picture is actually really good. Some people randomly went to Bill Nye’s real house just to see it. He came out and showed them how his house is so efficient that it actually generates more energy than it consumes. This part is where he is showing his electricity meter going backwards. He gets a check in the mail every month instead of a bill.
Imagine if, say thirty years ago, mandates were put in place that every new home be equipped with solar panels, be thoroughly insulated, and had energy-efficient appliances installed… we’d be laughing at the oil barons now, instead of being their lap dogs. But no… people love their SUVs and setting their thermostat to 80 in the Winter too much.

this reminds me of that part in Aziz Ansari’s stand-up where he talks about Jay-Z drinking his own vodka at a club and when he signed the check, money went back in his own pocket. Badass.
